Industrial Hobbies Square Column Bed Mill

Not all Square Column Mills are Created Equal. |
This is not a editing trick, a mini mill really fits under the quill of our massive mill. |
Here is how our competitor's table sizes up against ours. |
Improved head rigidity with a Z Slide length of 12.5" and a 12.25" diameter head mounting collar. That equates to a increased Z Axis Slide of 66% over other mills (most others are 7.5") and increased head collar contact area of 185%. |
Ground Ways on all axes.
Inch graduated dials. |
30" x 12" Work Envelope
That works out to 2.5 square feet of working space, compare that with other companies offering a paltry 21"x7.5" work envelope. Which is only 1.1 square feet of working space. We looked for another machine with a comparable working envelope and came up with a $4500 knee mill and that still didn't have nearly as much Z-axis travel.
Looking for more height to go with the additional travel? We got that too. With a maximum quill to table distance of 22.25" we offer 20% greater quill height than our competitors.
Hardened Gears?
Hardened Gears allow the mill motor to be swapped out for a 3400 RPM motor, this will double all the speeds of the machine and really get things going. 3200 + RPM spindle to be exact, which makes it the fastest gear head spindle in the US as well.
Why didn’t we import them with the faster motor?
Three Reasons:
We wanted to be able to offer these machines in single phase. The higher RPM metric motors are only available in 3-phase. So if you want to really make them cook you’ll need to go to a VFD controlled 3-phase motor.
A bunch of these will be sold as strictly manual machines and with that in mind we wanted to keep the spindle RPM reasonable.
Lastly, if your going to make this mill dance (3200 RPM spindle is dancing) you WANT a VFD motor up there.
