Making a Sample Part

Every time there is an ad for a CNC machine, they put some sample part up there on the table and tell you how you can make one too.  Now of course you have no clue about anything else except the fact that the part looks cool.

I often have the following questions:

  • Did it take 20 minutes or 2 weeks?
  • What does the code look like?
  • Did you really make it on that machine?

About our sample part:

  • I have no clue what it is, I just thought it up from scratch.
  • I call it "the 4 leaf clover"
  • From concept to completion it took about an hour to make.
  • The block of aluminum is 8" x 6" x 1.5"

Start by getting a piece of aluminum on the table and bolted down.

It's on our new clamping table, which we made just before doing this.  The holes are on 1" centers.

Same part from the side.
